In order to use Novelrunner’s AI Analysis feature, you will need an active Novelrunner+ subscription and an API key from OpenAI.

OpenAI API Notes

Please keep in mind these important facts about using an OpenAI API key:

• You will be responsible for any OpenAI charges. OpenAI is very affordable. As of the time of this writing, OpenAI gives every user a free $5 credit in API usage to try it out. More information on pricing can be found here
• Your API key is secret information. Guard it like you would any important password.
• Once you generate an API key, you cannot view it again, so store it somewhere safe. You can always generate a new API key if you lose your existing key.

How to Obtain a Key

1. Create an account with OpenAI at https://platform.openai.com
2. Log into https://platform.openai.com
3. Click your account inital/picture in the upper right-hand corner to access the profile menu
4. Select “View API Keys” or “Generate API Keys”
5. Click “Create new secret key”
6. Type a name for your key or simply use the default name
7. Copy your key and store it someplace safe
8. Open Novelrunner and go to “Settings”
9. Enter the key you received in the OpenAI API Key box
10. Save your settings
11. Congrats! You should now be able to click on the “Analysis” button on any scene and ChatGPT will analyze your scene for grammar, readibility, engagement, and prose.
